Planning the perfect girls' trip? Look no further than the stunning sister islands of Bali: Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan. Just a short boat ride away from the mainland, these islands offer the ultimate blend of tropical relaxation, breathtaking coastal views, and deep cultural experiences.
Here is a look at our recent sunny adventure and the absolute best spots and activities you should add to your travel itinerary!
1. Striking a Pose at Dream Beach
Our first stop was the famous Dream Beach. Known for its powdery white sand and dramatic cliffs, it is the perfect spot to kick off the day. We couldn't resist taking a group photo on the iconic wooden swing with the turquoise ocean stretching out behind us. If you want that classic, postcard-perfect island photo, this is exactly where you need to go.
2. Cruising Around in Style (Island Transport)
Forget walking in the heat—the best way to explore Nusa Lembongan is by renting one of these vibrant, open-air yellow Suzuki minivans! Not only did they keep us cool and comfortable as we zipped from one attraction to the next, but they also made for some incredibly fun and colorful group photos.
3. Exploring the Serene Mangrove Forest Jungutbatu
For a change of scenery, we headed over to the Mangrove Forest in Jungutbatu. The contrast of the bright green mangroves against the deep blue sky is absolutely stunning. There are traditional boats lined up ready to take you on a peaceful tour through the waterways. It’s a wonderfully calm and refreshing eco-tourism experience that balances out the beach vibes.
4. Walking Across the Iconic Yellow Bridge to Nusa Ceningan
No trip to these islands is complete without crossing the famous Yellow Bridge (also known as the 'Bridge of Love'). This narrow suspension bridge connects Nusa Lembongan to Nusa Ceningan over a crystal-clear shallow channel. Walking across with the ocean breeze in our hair and waving at the boats below was the perfect way to wrap up our island exploration.
5. Witnessing the Raw Power of Devil's Tears
Next, we headed to Devil's Tears, a dramatic cliffside where the ocean waves crash violently against the rocky coves, creating massive sprays and spectacular blowholes. Standing along the rugged coastline with the turquoise water swirling below is a humbling and thrilling experience. It is easily one of the most breathtaking nature spots on the island for a memorable group photo.
6. Embracing Culture: Trying on Balinese Traditional Attire
Beyond the beaches, we wanted to truly connect with Bali's rich cultural heritage. We had the wonderful opportunity to dress up in Balinese traditional clothing for a visit to a local shrine.
Balinese traditional attire is deeply rooted in respect and spirituality. For women, it beautifully consists of:
- Kebaya: A traditional, elegant lace blouse.
- Kamen: A colorful woven sarong wrapped tightly around the waist and legs.
- Senteng: A fabric sash tied around the waist, which symbolizes wrapping one's mind and heart away from bad thoughts while entering sacred spaces.
- Bunga Jepun: A fresh frangipani flower tucked behind the ear as a final touch of grace.
Wearing these garments and learning the respectful hand gesture (Sembah) made us appreciate the island's vibrant soul so much more.
Quick Tips for Your Trip:
- What to Pack: Light swimwear and comfortable casual outfits for the beaches, but remember to dress respectfully or use a sarong when entering spiritual areas.
- Respect Local Customs: When trying on traditional attire or visiting temples, always ensure your shoulders and knees are properly covered out of respect for local traditions.
- Stay Hydrated: The island sun is gorgeous but intense—pack plenty of water, sunscreen, and a sun visor.
Bali and its surrounding islands proved to be the ultimate destination for making lifelong memories, blending thrilling coastal views with beautiful cultural moments.
